Beekeeping: The Beginning Of Our Journey In Raising Honey Bees
Today we picked up our bees from my beekeeping mentor, Hiroshi, who rears Queen bees and has an extensive collection of eclectic hives and bee colonies in his backyard. Not fully knowing what to expect in our beekeeping adventure, my husband and I packed up our empty hive and headed out. When we arrived, Hiroshi was packing up a three-layered hive of his own to send home with us. “Is THAT going in OUR car?” I asked.

Little did I know when I woke up that morning, my day would end with me sitting in the back of our Yukon, dressed in a bee suit, holding down three hives full of 90,000 honeybees as my adrenaline-filled husband drove nervously and furiously back home to our farm. Our beekeeping journey was truly beginning.

We made it home alive and WITHOUT any stings, and worked with Hiroshi to settle the bees in for the night. In the world of beekeeping, it was a day to remember.
