Description

These Baked Apple Cinnamon Doughnut Holes bring warm comforting flavors to the table. A great treat in the fall or anytime of the year, this baked version is slightly healthier than its fried counterpart. They can be enjoyed hot or cold, alone, or paired with your favorite cup of coffee in the morning or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an evening treat.

Ingredients

Scale

For the doughnuts:

1 box (16 ounces) vanilla or yellow cake mix

1 cup applesauce (unsweetened)

1 cup water

For the cinnamon sugar topping:

3 tablespoons sugar

1 tablespoon cinnamon powder (more or less depending on your taste)

3 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly grease or spray a mini muffin pan.

In a bowl, mix the cake mix, applesauce, and water until smooth.

Scoop the batter into the mini muffin cups, filling each about ¾ full.

Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the tops spring back when lightly touched.

Let the doughnut holes cool for a few minutes.

In a small bowl, stir together sugar and cinnamon.

Dip each doughnut hole in melted butter, then roll it in the cinnamon sugar mix until coated.

Enjoy!
